This is our first year doing HOTY, and I hope it becomes one of our favorite July traditions at Cheyne Ranch.

July is a funny month around here.
Our registration numbers are usually at their lowest because Florida is, well, Florida. It is hot. It rains most afternoons. Families travel. Schedules change. Everyone is trying to survive the summer.
But for the horses, July is not a quiet month at all.
In many ways, July is one of our most expensive months for horse care. The heat means more electrolytes, supplements, water, fans, fly care, and careful attention. Many of the horses need more hay and grain to keep their weight steady. The rain means more mud, more stall care, more shavings, more pasture maintenance, and more work keeping hooves clean and healthy.
So we decided to make July more fun.
HOTY is a playful summer fundraiser where each Cheyne Ranch horse has a team, and $5 counts as one vote.
So a $25 gift is 5 votes for your favorite. And $20 is 4 votes, which is right about what a month of summer fly protection and supplements runs for one horse around here.

HOTY is meant to be lighthearted, but the purpose matters.
