Advocacy for Special Needs education
We are combining our voices to be heard!
So much about the Florida Family Empowerment Scholarship is GREAT.
So much needs additional work.
So many students are not receiving the therapies, educational services and opportunities that Florida law makers put into law - because the private company responsible for distributing the funds of this school choice law is… not doing well at that job.
So many providers, small businesses and even big companies who offer therapy and services, educational materials, are owed BIG amounts of money, and they are stopping their services and closing their shops until they get paid.
NEXT OPPORTUNITY: The House of Representatives is meeting in Tallahassee for the 2024 special session to discuss HB 3C, a bill to further expand school choice. This is an IDEAL time to have our voices heard.
This blog post walks you through how to submit a letter that is directly emailed to the committee members.
ONGOING OPPORTUNITY: If you are a parent receiving the Family Empowerment Scholarship, will you please contribute your voice to our cause? Please fill out this google form with your story and your concerns. We are compiling a GIANT digital notebook of hundreds of letters from families, providers and private schools explaining how this impacts YOU.
Every voice matters. Google Form
PLEASE DONATE: We are raising money to assist with gas, tolls and our (shared) overnight lodging. Please help us, every amount helps.
If we don't keep fighting for and advocating for the educational rights for our children - we will all pay the price. There is nothing more important than the commitment and quality to how we raise our children. I'm proud to live in a state that allows parents so much choice - but the actual intention of this legislation is lost if we don't we don't have accountable, functioning means to offer our children an education.
Advocacy Updates:
Living in America, all of our children have a right to an education. Florida law makers have signed into law provisions that allow for parents to receive some funding to help educate their child in a private school, at-home, or in an out of district school if that is what the parent chooses. However, the management / distribution of this funding is being handled almost entirely by a singular nonprofit (an SFO called SUFS - ha! acronyms) that is operating at the epitome of bureaucratic failure. The consequence of this administrative failure is causing significant disruptions to our children's education.
If we don't keep fighting for and advocating for the educational rights for our children - it impacts ALL of our lives. There is nothing more important than the commitment and quality to how we raise our children. I'm proud to live in a state that allows parents so much choice - but the actual intention of this legislation is lost if we don't we don't have accountable, functioning means to offer our children an education.
If you have any questions about this - please ask me. I have learned so much and been inspired by informed, intelligent mamas who are out there fighting for our kids. It is a fight I'm proud to join.
