Day 2: Wednesday, October 28, 2020

Our 2nd day of Nature Club! I’ve been thinking all week how I would like to focus on what is most important about good horsemanship - which is becoming a knowledgeable and confident horse person with 2 feet on the ground. For so many people, riding is the “fun” part, but I have always thought the most fun (and important) is part is being around the horses, getting to know them, watching as they begin to trust their humans, and learning how to share them with others.

The weather was lovely, mid 80’s with a nice breeze. Skyler and Lily joined us, as well as my 4 Cheyne kids. Madison joined us from the 2nd half of it.

Safety Review

  • Calm presence around horses, how to observe horse’s body language to determine if they are calm & accepting or fearful / irritated.

  • Halter from the side of the horse, not in front (horse’s noses are strong! Horse might bop human in the face and that hurts!)

Activities

  • Gave bunnies hay, grain & water.

  • Refilled horses’ stall waters (Skyler)

  • Checked for eggs

  • Groomed Scarlett!!!!

  • Walked Pearl & Princess

  • Took Lucy for a walk with Skyler riding

  • Took Pearl for a walk with Lily riding
