First is of course - the ballet… we are an equine and animal education and therapy center - so OF COURSE we are offering group tickets to the ballet ;)

It is the NUTCRACKER!! presented by the Orlando Ballet Company. This is a 60 minute sensory friendly performance at an INCREDIBLE price. Take the kids out of school for this Wednesday mid-day, performance. Everyone is welcome.

Last (but certainly not least…) is an update on the advocacy work I’ve been doing. It is REALLY INTERESTING. and sometimes disappointing. Sometimes deadlines are TODAY!! and sometimes no news for weeks at a time. Because nothing moves fast regarding state government. I am mostly witnessing really impressive women (also volunteer mamas) do their amazing work while I watch. In awe. and I volunteer to do computer stuff when I can. Like helping to prepare a 220 page document that landed in the governor’s office outlining HUNDREDS of parent’s and provider’s concerns about the education of their special needs kids in the state of Florida. It is interesting stuff. I’m happy to talk about it anytime. I’m mostly thrilled to have the privilege to watch this process first hand.

It turns out the above advocacy update isn’t actually last (but not least). Did you know Cheyne Ranch, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides a safe, inclusive and accessible way for people of all abilities to learn about animal care & connections?

We serve our local community through providing scholarships to our lesson programs, caring for the many farm animals that have been donated to us, and advocating for inclusive, accessible experiences for all individuals.

Each month, we open our facility to approximately 100 individuals who learn, work and volunteer with us. They learn job skills, grow in their confidence and communication, and best of all - spend time with our incredible animals.

Animal care is expensive. Human care is expensive. Each month, our operating costs for our animal care exceeds $5,000.

I wouldn’t trade this life for anything. I love it. But the financial struggle is real. My 5!! teenagers all volunteer - they don’t get paid. I don’t receive a salary. There is ALWAYS more to do. The horses need dental appointments (yes - ask me more about this sometime). The goats need improved shelter. We need better hay shelter. Our “riding” arena needs professional help. The list goes on… and on…
